Year 6

Ambassadors - Prefects - Buddies - Role Models

Dear Year 6 parents and carers,

We are already in the second half of the Autumn term.  The children have settled in well and are proving to be excellent ambassadors. They have helped their new Reception buddies settle into school and did a great job introducing them in Buddy Assembly.

This half term, they will lead Remembrance Liturgy on 11th November and the Carol Service nearer the end of term.  We look forward to welcoming you there.

We will continue to learn about the impact of WW2 in History and in RE we will learn about Injustice and those who stood up for their beliefs. We will have a visit from the Bradford Peace Museum to enhance our learning through their 'Courage and Conscience' workshop. Through stories, role play and relatable everyday scenarios, pupils will consider the implications of making unpopular decisions and standing strong in the face of pressure in order to do the right thing.

Parents evening is this half-term and I look forward to seeing you then.

Homework

Year 6 get maths, reading and grammar homework weekly. Homework is given on Monday and is due back the following Friday where it is marked in class. Booster class is always available to children at dinnertime if they need any support to complete homework.

We follow Spelling Shed to deliver the NC and weekly spellings are given on Thursday for a spelling test the following week. Children have a logon for Spelling Shed to enable them to practise these words at home.

They also have a logon for TTRockstars in order to consolidate their multiplication tables as rapid recall of these is essential for success in maths.

Reading Books

Home reading books have been given to all children. They must be in school everyday and the children change them once a week on a given day. Please make sure reading records, now part of their diary,  are signed and returned to school each week (on your child's day).   It is vital to ready daily with your child and discuss their books with them in order to ensure they continue to develop their inference and understanding.

PE

Our PE days are Tuesday and Friday. Please make sure PE kits are in school and are labelled with your child's name. Even in year 6 they get misplaced!  PE kit and footwear should be in school at all times.  This term we will be outside weather dependent.  Please make sure your child has  pumps in the correct size, shorts and a white T-shirt as well as their trainers and joggers.

Indoor kit: white t-shirt, navy shorts, socks and black pumps.

Outdoor kit: a plain navy tracksuit, white t-shirt, socks and trainers.

Please also ensure your child brings a water bottle to school every day. It is cold outside still but it gets warm in the classroom.  One with a sports lid is preferable to minimize the damage caused by spillages.

If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact the office or speak to us before or after school.
